Last chance to stake your claim

The deadline for entries to this year’s Dentistry Awards 2007 is less than a month away\. Don’t miss your chance to outshine your competitors….

If you feel your practice deserves praise for a year’s hard work and success, then make sure you get suitable recognition by entering the Dentistry Awards 2007. Now in its second year, the Dentistry Awards was set up to reward the many aspects that result in a successful practice – from clinical excellence and a sound work ethic to inspired leadership and staff training investment.

Broken down into 10 separate UK regions, the awards give each practice a chance to prove not only to their patients but also their direct competition that they are the best in their area of the country. Last year’s winners are still riding high on their success after picking up their awards at the spectacular prize-giving ceremony. But if you want your practice to enjoy such recognition and adulation, make sure you get your entry in before the deadline of September 15.

Last year’s inaugural event brought over 600 people from the profession to celebrate excellence in dentistry. As well as the energetic awards ceremony, presented by special guest Roy Walker, a black-tie gala dinner and 16-piece band capped off a perfect evening. Video highlights of that night can be found by visiting www.dentistry.co.uk/awards2007.

Many entries have already come in, with the standards looking just as high as they were last year. In 2006, the awards were privileged enough receive entries from some truly innovative, forward-thinking practices, and there is every indication that this year will be the same.

Regions
The awards, as explained before, have been created to stand apart from other dental-award formats, in that we have broken the UK down into 10 separate regions. Battle it out with your local practices in these regions: Scotland, Northern Ireland, North East, North West, Midlands, Wales, East, London, South West, South East.

Award categories
Each region will be judged by our prestigious panel and the winners will be selected. All winners from each of the three categories in each region will then be in with a chance of winning the highest accolade of all – the overall UK awards. The categories are as follows:
• Best Young Dentist
This award is specifically for dentists under 35 years old who not only have a high standard of practice management seemingly beyond their experience, but have also achieved great things at this early stage of their career.
• Best Team
This award is designed to recognise the best collective team effort. Outstanding performance, continued training and an admirable work ethic is essential, but how each individual contributes to the overall running of the practice will also be a key factor.
• Best Practice
This award is aimed to recognise the best practice within the region. Any recent improvements that have proved successful and brilliant leadership will be taken into account along with training, investment in staff and work outside the practice such as community projects.

The judging panel
The panel is made up of some of the most well known names in dentistry. Chaired by Dr Simon Roland, we have dentists, hygienists and practice managers from all over the country, and we are sure they will do an excellent job of what will be an extremely tough task in choosing those winners!

Entries
Each entrant must tell us, in 500 words or less, the reason why their practice, they themselves or their team should be considered for the award they are going for. This should be backed up with evidence in the form of testimonials, photographs, marketing support and letters of reference. Remember – it’s worth taking into account that the more information you supply, the clearer picture the judges get of you and your practice. And don’t forget – the deadline for entries is 15 September.
To reserve your space at the ceremony on 7 December, and for a full list of guidelines and criteria for each category, please call Elisa on 01923 851734 or email [email protected].

This is what a selection of last year’s winners had to say:
We were in complete disbelief when our name was read out . . . to have an award to say the industry thinks we’ve done a good job feels really good.’
Attiq Rahan of Visage Lifestyle Clinic, winner of Best New Practice award for Scotland and UK, 2006

To win two awards is some achievement and we’re really proud. It’s like winning two Oscars . . . these awards are so important because they keep you focused and they give you an incentive and that’s what we all want.’
Emmett Murray, winner of Best Team Member and Best Practice in Northern Ireland, 2006

Much as I praise the team’s total commitment on a regular basis, it just doesn’t compare to the boost the award has given them.’
Dr Craig Parker of Primley Park Dental Practice, Best Practice in the North East, 2006

When they called out our name, there was just a mass of screams and cheers from all of us. We only took over the practice a couple of years ago and so this award means a lot to us and acknowledges the hard work we’ve all put in.’
Anesh Patel of Cliftonville Dental Care, Best Practice for the Midlands, 2006

We were ecstatic when we found out we had won . . . it’s boosted the morale of the whole team and we feel like we’ve got some recognition for our efforts over the past year and a half.’
Keith Burns of Metrodental, Best New Practice for London, 2006

What a fab night! We’d have enjoyed it without an award but winning an award certainly pushed the enjoyment factor up by several notches. The team was thrilled.’
Sally Atkinson of I-Teeth Dental Care, Best New Practice in the South East.
