Lincolnshire waiting lists slashed

Major investment in NHS dental care in Lincolnshire is behind a drop in waiting figures, according to health managers.

New figures show the waiting list to see an NHS dentist in the county has been cut by 55,000 in the past year.

The Primary Care Trust (PCT) said it had invested more than £2m in opening 10 new practices as well as making sure existing practices were fully staffed.

Managers said there were still more than 2,000 people on the waiting list and they were working to reduce that.

Dr Martin McShane, director of strategic planning for the county’s primary care trust, said the cut was due to ‘an immense amount of hard work by the previous PCTs and the current PCT.’

He added: ‘The new flexible dental contract has been used to bring in 10 new practices with an investment of £1.8m last year and another £1m this year.

‘We are doing some serious things about dentistry in Lincolnshire.’
