The annual Schottlander prize for the advancement of knowledge in prosthetic dentistry has been won by Dr David Newsum from Doncaster.
The prize is awarded annually and this year marks its 22nd anniversary.
The award took place at a dinner in Birmingham, attended by Dr Nick Jepson, President of the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry (BSSPD), together with other leading members of the Society.
The winning paper was titled An investigation into the effects of metal primer II and surface topography on the tensile bond strength between cobalt chromium alloy and composite resin.
In congratulating Dr Newsum on the quality of his paper, Dr Brian Schottlander pointed out the very high quality of entrants there had been for the prize. He said Dr Newsum’s paper had won against stiff competition, making it a very worthwhile achievement.
Dr Schottlander went on to say that it is specialist societies such as the BSSPD, with their sense of purpose and focus, that give vital continuity in patient care at a time of political changes. The BSSPD is distinguished for its understanding of patient needs, and the knowledge and skills of how to provide solutions for them.
