Plans for pioneering dentistry institute

There are ambitious plans to create a pioneering dentistry institute in Bradford, according to www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk.

Talks are under way with a view to establishing a Dentistry Centre of Excellence in the city that would focus worldwide attention on the district.

The institute would include an NHS clinic for basic dental requirements, a private clinic for more specialist treatments, and an academic facility involving Bradford College and the University of Bradford.

Cameras in the theatres would enable students to view live pictures of dental procedures while a lecturer explains the process.

The pictures could also be beamed to students in remote parts of the world via satellite.

Apparently a group of dental surgeons is interested in setting up the institute on the site of the proposed Sustainable Student Village at Listerhills, a £150 million project that is part of wider moves to create a £750 million Learning Quarter in the city’s student area.

If the talks come to a successful conclusion, the facility would be built alongside accommodation for 1,000 students, a Business Innovation Centre and the relocated student health centre.

Details of the proposed institute emerged after the University of Bradford and the Hayat Developments Group signed a ‘Heads of Terms’ contract to agree the overall design and operation of the Listerhills student village.
