Dental team gets crafty for TV charity

A charity appeal by the children’s television show, Blue Peter, has challenged a dental group from the north east to get creative.

The ‘Send a Smile’ appeal supports the charity Operation Smile, which sends volunteer medical professionals to India to provide free reconstructive surgery for thousands of children suffering with a cleft lip and palate.

The dental teams at Osborne Dental in Jesmond, Newcastle and Stanley Dental in County Durham – including dentists, nurses, patients, family and friends – have been busy making surgical gowns for children to wear when they have their operation.

For every 50 gowns donated to the appeal, one child will be able to have this life changing operation, so the teams have been working hard to create some fun designs.

Principal dentist Onkar Dhanoya said: ‘Everyone has had such a lot of fun making these bright and colourful gowns which we hope will cheer up a child having the surgery.

‘This condition has such an impact on a child’s life and it is so easily treatable. We are very proud to make a contribution to the Blue Peter appeal’.
