Celebrity smile auction raises 8,000 so far

Supermodel Jodie Kidd is heading up a host of celebrities who have all donated a personal ‘smile’ to her Celebrity Smile auction on eBay.

Bidding took place last month and raised more than £8,000.

The final lots are being auctioned at the Dentaid Christmas Masquerade ball next Friday (10 December).

They include signed framed pictures of Jamie Theakston, Peter Jones, Andrew Castle, Tom Chambers, Kriss Akabusi.

The Campaign for World Wide Smiles Celebrity Smile Auction also offered once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like a one-to-one afternoon with GMTV celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward, spa treatments and fine dining at Michelin star restaurants.

The fundraising project is supported by Oral-B and funds raised by the Campaign for Worldwide Smiles – www.oralb.co.uk/worldwidesmiles – will be used to fund a Dentaid project at the Sappuro Dental College & Hospital, Dhakata, Bangaldesh.

Throughout October and November, a donation was made to Dentaid for every manual toothbrush bought.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 87.5% of the world’s 6.5 billion people suffer from tooth decay.

In developed countries, the solution is a trip to the dentist, but in disadvantaged communities there just aren’t enough dentists to go around.

Some seek treatment from untrained ‘street dentists’ using inappropriate, unsterilised tools, risking HIV and hepatitis.

Others live with agonising tooth pain and often develop diseases. Hundreds of thousands of people die each year as a result.

Jodie said: ‘I am delighted to be supporting the campaign. Decent dental care should be a right, not a privilege.’
