Award to all the presidents woman

Ann Craddock was presented with the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) ‘distinguished service, loyalty and mentorship’ award recently in recognition of her three years of service.

The presentation took place at the fifth annual BDA Honours and Awards Dinner in London in November, Ann is the first ever recipient of the award, which was presented to her in recognition of 30 years of service with the BSDHT.

Ann joined the BSDHT in 1980 as an administrator and for many years was the Society’s only support staff.

She has attended more than 60 BSDHT Council meetings, arranged 30 annual conferences and worked for 17 presidents as well as the current president, Sally Simpson.

On being presented the award by Sally Simpson, president of the Society, Ann said: ‘I am delighted and privileged to receive this award. It will be a permanent reminder of all the happy years I have spent with the BSDHT and the many changes in dental hygiene I have seen during the past 30 years.’

Ann Craddock was educated at Kirkby Lonsdale Grammar School, Westmorland and from there went directly into central government as a business trainee. After a move to the West Country, she took employment in local government.

In 1980, following a short career break, Ann was employed by the British Dental Hygienists’ Association – the forerunner of the BSDHT. Ann received the BSDHT’s prestigious Dr Gerald Leatherman Award in 2000.

This award is given to any individual, not necessarily a dental hygienist, who has shown consistent support for the profession of dental hygiene or to the BSDHT.
