New dental practice breaks corporate mould

James Hull Associates celebrated the official reopening of Hill House Dental Practice in Tunbridge Wells this week.

Thanks to an investment of more than £500,000 from the group, the dental practice was able to relocate to its new, custom designed premises that includes five modern surgeries and a fully equipped sterilisation room in accordance with HTM 01-05 and Care Quality Commission guidelines.

Mr Robin Pugh, chief executive officer of James Hull Associates, joined practice staff at Hill House Dental Practice to mark the special occasion.

He said: ‘James Hull Associates is committed to investing in its practices for the better of dentistry and for its patients.’

In a move away from a more traditional corporate identity, Hill House Dental Practice is tastefully decorated in bright, colourful shades to reflect the practice’s own personality.

‘I don’t want to encourage a one size fits all approach when it comes to each practice’s identity,’ said Mr Pugh.

‘I want to allow our practices to be more individual. Each practice should have its own ‘Esprit de corps’.’

Nevertheless, James Hull Associates is still committed to raising standards of treatment across the board.

Over the past four years, the company has grown rapidly, acquiring 39 additional dental practices.

Commenting on James Hull Associates’ recent growth, Mr Pugh said: ‘After a period of rapid growth, of course there is still much more we have to do. We have invested heavily in staff training working with one of the UK’s leading dental training companies, Breathe Business: to create a sense of cohesion within the group we have introduced standardised pay scales and made sure that job titles are now the same across the board.

‘Earlier in 2010 we gave all staff a 3.5% pay increase and we continue to support them in their professional training and development. It is vital that all staff feel respected and that they can clearly see a positive career structure and promotional opportunities with in the group.

‘We have also invested considerable in our IT with future investments planed and have recently installing a new call overflow system to reduce missed patient calls which has just gone live across the whole group.

‘In short, our main focuses are on patient care and looking after our staff well, which in turn will improve the overall patient journey.’
