A Norfolk man has become the latest to be prosecuted by the General Dental Council (GDC) under laws aimed at protecting the public from unregistered dental practitioners.
Edward Gray, who formerly worked at 1A Dental Practice Limited, 26 St. Mary’s Street, Ely in Cambridgeshire, yesterday pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 31 (1) and (2) of the Dentists Act 1984 at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court.
He admitted to practising as a dentist without being registered with the GDC to do so. He was fined £600 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
The GDC were awarded full costs of just over £1,124.
Chief executive of the GDC Evlynne Gilvarry welcomed the result, saying: ‘The GDC is committed to taking action against people who practise dentistry illegally. They are a risk to the people they treat and we will do everything we can to ensure public safety’
