Lord Howe will lead a panel of dental commentators and speakers in a debate which will address the future of dentistry.
Now celebrating its 11th year, ‘Career opportunities in UK dentistry’ is a one-day event this Friday and is organised by the British Dental Association and UCL Eastman Dental Institute.
The conference, taking place in London’s Russell Square, is aimed at vocational dental practitioners, young dentists, anyone considering a change of career or returning to dentistry after a career break, as well as dentists from overseas.
The day will also consist of a programme of lectures by knowledgeable speakers.
Andrew Eder, professor of restorative dentistry and dental education and director of education at UCL Eastman Dental Institute wil open the event with a ministerial address by Lord Howe, the parliamentary under-secretary of state to follow.
Joining him on the panel are:
• Judith Husband, vice chair of the BDA executive board
• Stephen Porter, professor of oral medicine and director at UCL Eastman Dental Institute
• Barry Cockcroft, chief dental officer for England
• Susie Sanderson, chair of the BDA executive board
• Alison Lockyer, chair of the GDC
A spokessperson said: ‘As recently qualified dental practitioners with professional careers ahead of you, the presenting challenges and opportunities can be both exciting and daunting. Choosing the right direction at this stage will help to ensure realisation of your preferred career pathway at the earliest opportunity.
‘We are therefore, delighted to offer this panel debate involving senior representatives from the British Dental Association, Department of Health, General Dental Council and UCL Eastman Dental Institute who will hopefully clarify a wide range of topical issues and so help to set you on your chosen path.’
The event meets the educational criteria set by the GDC for verifiable CPD (5 hours) and is certified by UCL Eastman Dental Institute and British Dental Association.
