Karren Brady shares football banter with dentists

Star of BBC’s The Apprentice and business icon, Karren Brady, kicked of the World Aesthetic Congress with a winning address.

As keynote speaker, she entertained a busy auditorium of dental teams from across the UK with tales of football teams, the banter in the dressing rooms, and humorously recalled her early days on her path to fame where she encountered sexism and other challenges.

Karren, who was just 23 when appointed managing director of Birmingham City football club, revealed three key factors to a successful business:

• Determination – ‘Wanting to do your job and do it well.’
• Enthusiasm – ‘That’s what drives business, the enthusiasm of staff.’
• What works for me – ‘What contribution staff can make and, if sucessful, what their rewards are.’

In times of recession, she explained ‘good leaders stay afloat’ while ‘great leaders find opportunitites’.

‘Nobody everstarted anything without ambition,’ she said.

Karren, who jokingly referred to her dental veneers, finished the presentation by announcing the winners of a competition run by Knight Dental Design.

First prize was £2,000 worth of eMAX restorations, second prize £500 worth of e.max restorations and third prize was £300 worth of eMAX restorations – all produced by Knight Dental Design (www.knightdentaldesign.co.uk).

Winners will be named next week.
