Website pioneers bag dental care degree

Two directors of www.cpd4dentalnurses.co.uk were among the first cohort of students in the UK to graduate with a BSc in Primary Dental Care this summer.

Dental hygienists Sue Bagnall (Warwickshire) and Nicky Gough (West Sussex) graduated in July 2011 with BSc (hons) in Primary Dental Care from the University of Kent.

They were among the first cohort of students to graduate with this new three-year degree for dentistry in the country.

Not only have they been busy as practising dental hygienist whilst they were studying but they also launched www.cpd4dentalnurses.co.uk during their first year at university.

This year, they won first place in the University of Kent’s Big Ideas business competition for their website which is exclusively for dental nurses and provides them with access to online continuing professional development.

Sue and Nicky met while studying dental hygiene at King’s College Dental Hospital in 1996 they have remained firm friends and are both committed to continuing their education in dentistry with the aim of providing patients with the highest standard of care possible.

Their shared passion and enthusiasm for dentistry led them to studying together again at the University of Kent.

It was their commitment to encouraging other dental nurses to focus on improving their professional practice that led them to launch www.cpd4dentalnurses.co.uk.

Later this year, they are planning to launch a second website www.cpd4dentalhygienists.co.uk to provide dental hygienists and dental therapists access to online CPD that is aimed at improving their professional practice.
