Local newspaper toasts NHS dentistry heroes

NHS dental teams were celebrated recently at an awards night organsied by a alocal newspaper.

The Portsmouth News threw a party for around 350 guests as it celebrated the NHS health professionals around the city at its Best of Health Awards 2011.

And in the dental practice of the year category, Somers Town Community Dental Clinic scooped first prize with the Dental Academy at the University of Portsmouth as runners up.

For the second year, readers were invited to nominate their health heroes.

Winners and runner-ups in the 12 categories were awarded their trophies at a glitzy ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall.

The night was opened by the paper’s editor, Mark Waldron.

He said: ‘Our NHS staff strive to provide amazing healthcare – some of which is the best in the country. We wanted to recognise those staff and volunteers who have stood out in the care they gave, or went above and beyond.’
