‘Illegal dentistry’ drive hailed a success

The Dental Laboratories Association and the British Association of Clinical Dental Technology launched a campaign in December 2011 to crack down on the growing scourge of illegal dentistry in the UK.

The BACDT created the website – www.dentureprofessionals.org – and have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from trade companies, healthcare professionals and the general public.

Richard Daniels, the chief executive of the BACDT, said: ‘The BACDT office is being inundated with calls from other healthcare professionals and dental companies asking how they can help stamp out illegal dentistry, therefore to keep everyone informed we have set up a Twitter and facebook page.’

David Bevan, president of the BACDT said: ‘The denture professional’s website, launched in December 2011, has been a fantastic success and is even at  this early stage, already exceeding our initial expectations.

Over the last three years, BACDT has consistently looked at ways to highlight the positives of professional clinical dental technology rather than the negatives of rogue individuals working directly with the public, and www.dentureprofessionals.org has an important role to play in helping us to continue our good work.’

www.dentureprofessionals.org lists clinical Dental Technicians who have registered with the General Dental Council. It also provides information on the different types of dentures that are available and the products which are used for making and cleaning dentures.
