Sci-fi fan gets ‘Space Odyssey’ dental theme

As part of the briefing process, the architects were simply given a DVD of Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film, 2001: A Space Odyssey and asked to follow the design.

Girk asked Mellor Architects director Brian Shiach, based in Kendall, Cumbria, to pay particular attention to the set design in specific sequences, as inspiration for the design of project.

Kathy Baytug explains: ‘Before we found this building in the middle of Kendal, we were a ‘one man’ practice in a small cramped location with no opportunity to expand.

‘We had a dream of creating a modern, state-of-the-art dental practice that served the needs of our present NHS patients and which could grow to offer our service to a wider patient base.
