Improved practice income and patient care

General practitioners can learn the skills necessary to successfully place dental implants on a highly acclaimed year programme in Glasgow.

The Scottish Year Course guides dentists through each stage of the treatment, from diagnosis to fitting and maintaining a restored implant.

Presented by Dr Stephen Jacobs and Dr Clive Schmulian, the fifth intake begins in August.  Further details can be found in Dentsply Friadent’s online education programme at www.courses4implants.com.

Dr Nigel Fitter, of Kingsmills Dental Practice, Inverness, is one of more than thirty dentists to attend the course.

He reckons that starting to undertake implant cases will enable him to treat more patients that he would otherwise have had to refer.

Dr Fitter believes the advantages include, ‘generating over £50K for my practice and my patients will benefit from better support and continuity of care’.

The Scottish Year Course programme provides a detailed scientific, evidence-based approach.  Each participant treats one of their own cases from planning, through placement, to completing the final restoration.

Dr Fitter adds: ‘I really enjoyed the course, which has a good balance of lectures and hands-on training. The content was comprehensive and I now feel competent, with some mentoring, to start treating patients straight away.’

Stephen Jacobs lectures throughout the UK and Europe on all aspects of implant dentistry.  He runs Dental fx, an implant referral practice in Glasgow.

Clive Schmulian is a part-time visiting GDP in restorative care at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. He undertakes both surgical and restorative implant dentistry, as well as bone and sinus grafting.
