Dentist in £5,000 charity bike ride

A dentist is completing a 960-mile charity bike ride in September, hoping to raise £5,000-plus for oral cancer.

Cycling from Land’s End to John O'Groats, Simon Nocton is taking part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain event, which sees hundreds of people participate for various reasons, including fundraising.

Simon, sponsored by Straumann, has entered this year to raise money for The Facial Surgery Foundation – Saving Faces, a research charity, which is dedicated to the worldwide reduction of facial injuries and disease, such as oral cancer.

Explaining more about the charity event, and what made him decide to take part, Simon said: 'I am joining the Deloitte-sponsored Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride. It is an organised ride for which they donate a small part of the taking part fee to the British Paralympic Association, and then they encourage you to find yourself a worthy charity to raise money fo'.

'In the last year, I’ve seen two people with early oral cancers, so I thought raising money for this cause would be a fantastic thing to do because early diagnosis of mouth cancer is the key to a good outlook.'

Taking place from 8-16 September, Simon said he asked Straumann to sponsor him because of their long-standing relationship.

He explained: 'I asked the people at Straumann because this is our 20th year of working together. The age group of people we see is exactly the sort of age group that, classically, mouth cancer is found in. Straumann is involved in all aspects of dental healthcare, so, I thought, as a trusted and committed partner, I could think of no one better to ask for help.'
