DPAS sponsor new life-saving initiative

Practice-branded dental plan provider, DPAS, is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Mouth Cancer Foundation’s brand new life-saving initiative, the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme.

Reinforcing the message that awareness and early detection saves lives, the Mouth Cancer Foundation will accredit dental practices that routinely screen for oral cancer using their ‘2 Minutes to Save a Life’ screening protocol and meet other specific criteria. The Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme is based on three core principles:

• Improving early detection by dentists

• Reducing delays in access to diagnosis and treatment

• Raising public awareness and prevention by lifestyle changes.

DPAS Marketing Manager, Sam Brice, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this vital initiative as we feel it offers dental teams a simple and practical solution to improve early detection, raise public awareness of this hidden killer and ultimately save lives.'

The Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme also aims to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer sufferers, in accordance with the BDA’s occasional paper for the early detection and prevention of oral cancer and NICE guidelines. In addition this, it embraces recent CQC, Information Governance and Clinical Governance requirements, as well as responding to the GDC’s recommendation for continuous professional development for the management of oral cancer.

The Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme is the brainchild of Dr Vinod Joshi, Founder of the Mouth Cancer Foundation, and is open to any GDC-registered dentist and their team.
