Dental app gets NHS thumbs up

Dentist Ben Underwood, of Clifton Moor Dental Centre in York, created the Brush DJ app as a timer which plays two minutes of music taken at random from the user’s device.

The aim is to make the mundane task of brushing for the correct length of time more fun and therefore more likely to happen.

The app also contains the evidence based oral health advice given in the Department of Health document ‘Delivering Better Oral Health’ and scooped first prize in the journal Dental Hygiene & Therapy's first ever awards last year.

He was also runner up in the Best Marketing category.

Reminders can be set to prompt twice a day brushing, when to change toothbrushes, visit the dentist and hygienist.
