Student bursary awards announced

The awards are open to undergraduates and postgraduates and entries can now be submitted via the ADG website www.dentalgroups.co.uk.

Undergraduates are able to apply for two awards focusing on professionalism and management. There are three prizes of Gold £1,000, Silver £750 and Bronze £250 for both undergraduate awards.

The postgraduate award will be for the development of voluntary health programmes in the UK or abroad, which can demonstrate the capacity to improve and promote better oral health.

David Worskett, ADG chairman said the association was committed to supporting best practice within the dental profession and the new bursaries would allow students to demonstrate their commitment to patients and their ability to manage a successful practice.

He added: ‘One of the ADG’s priorities is to improve overall oral health amongst the public.  As an association, we also feel professionalism and management skills are fundamental to working in a dental practice and are therefore inextricably linked to positive patient outcomes.

‘Therefore these awards have been developed to allow students to demonstrate their desire to improve patient outcomes and to display their entrepreneurial ability and capability to work within a practice environment.

‘The postgraduate award winner will demonstrate all the necessary skill dentists require, from prioritising patient care and promoting good oral health, through to proper business planning.’

Entry to the awards is open until 1 October 2013 and winners will be announced in December.

The ADG represents nine private groups of dental providers, including BUPA, Integrated Dental Holdings and Oasis. Member organisations employ over 3,000 dentists across the UK.
