Work on Birmingham’s new dental hospital – the first integrated, stand-alone dental hospital and dental school in the UK for almost 40 years – has begun.
Planning permission for the £50 million scheme to build the new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry was granted in 2012. Due to be completed by 2015, the dental hospital is being built on the site of the former BBC Pebble Mill studios.
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust is leading the development, together with its partners the University of Birmingham, Birmingham and Solihull LIFT and Calthorpe Estates.
The new building will offer walk-in emergency dental care, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, oral medicine, orthodontics and paediatric dentistry. Once open, it is expected to have up to 200,000 people on site.
