Henry Schein Dental supports African & Caribbean Dental Association UK

The ACDA-UK was formed in response to the demand for better oral health awareness amongst minority groups in the United Kingdom and the need for peer review and networking amongst dental care professionals of the African and Caribbean background. The association’s first annual dinner was held at the Hilton London Tower Bridge Hotel, towards the end of 2013. Over 150 delegates attended the event. Dr Julius Babayemi and Dr Olurotimi Adesanya, directors of ACDA-UK formally inaugurated the charity gala dinner.

At this first annual dinner, ACDA-UK marked the contribution to the dental professionals by underlining the importance of oral to total health and how crucial it is to improve the delivery of oral healthcare to patients. Dr Adesanya pointed out that the ACDA-UK would like to partner with statutory, professional and voluntary organisations and to encourage its members to make use of its knowledge of culture and languages in promoting better health awareness amongst ethnic communities.

‘Our partnership with the ACDA-UK underlines Henry Schein’s commitment to global corporate social responsibility. Supporting dental groups, helping to build leadership capacity and networking within healthcare are key parts of our global Henry Schein Cares programme. Therefore, we are very pleased to be working with the ACDA-UK in creating a resource for dental team members of African and Caribbean origin. We will support ACDA-UK to create an educational programme and help communicate oral health messages in the communities,’ said Simon Gambold, managing director of Henry Schein’s medical and dental business in the United Kingdom.

This initiative is part of Henry Schein’s global corporate social responsibility programme. Henry Schein Cares helps increase access to care for underserved populations. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services, and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief. A fit with ACDA-UK’s objectives to effectively protect and enhance oral health, develop leadership in local communities and provide members networking opportunities. Another focus will be the mentoring of 16 to 25 year olds in their local communities.
