Philips is launching a challenge to find the nation’s dental superhero. The contest is being run during National Smile Month (19 May to 19 June) in collaboration with the British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF), as the company is a sponsor of this year’s campaign.
To coincide with the launch of its newest toothbrush, the Philips Sonicare for Kids, which features a caped superhero on its box, Philips and the BDHF are asking dental professionals who don fancy dress costumes in order to engage with their young (and not so young) patients, to upload a photograph showing them in costume to the National Smile Month Facebook page: www.facebook.com/nationalsmilemonth.
The winning dental professional or practice will be awarded three Philips Sonicare for Kids and three Philips Airfloss to dispense to patients.
Philips has also created a ‘family oral healthcare’ bundle of products for dental practices to enable them to offer families they treat extra help during National Smile Month. The promotional package, which is now available, includes a new Sonicare for Kids, a Sonicare Flexcare Platinum and an Airfloss, which they can offer patients for an all-in price.

The company is also supporting the British Dental Health Foundation’s public facing National Smile Month competition, which has been designed to encourage people to think about not only their oral health, but also that of their children.
During the month of the campaign, people can visit the National Smile Month website and answer a different question every day. The winning daily entrant will be awarded either a Sonicare for Kids or a Sonicare Airfloss. Patients should be encouraged to visit www.smilemonth.org to take part.
In addition, paediatric dentist Dr Thayalan Kandiah and dental hygienist Mhari Coxon are forming a double act to provide their expert during National Smile Month and their suggestions and top tips for parents are being featured in the consumer press and on parenting websites.
