Award won for outstanding dedication to profession

The award was presented to Elaine at the eighth annual BDA (British Dental Association) Honours and Awards event in Manchester last month.

This is only the third time that the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) has presented an award at the BDA event, the first was to Ann Craddock in 2010 in recognition of her 30 years’ service with the society.

Elaine is a well-known figure in the dental world with a career spanning more than 35 years.

She trained as a dental hygienist in the Royal Air Force and remained with the RAF for the next 25 years.

Currently she works as the deputy general manager, education and projects, at Tepe in Somerset.

An active and passionate member of the society, Elaine is a member of the publications committee for Dental Health.

She has also delivered lectures to BSDHT regional groups and at the society’s annual Oral Health Conference and Exhibition.

In 2013 she was involved in BSDHT’s very popular direct access roadshow and delivered presentations at the conference in Birmingham on one of her areas of special interest – mouth cancer screening.

In addition to her considerable role with BSDHT, Elaine is a member of the Team in Practice editorial board; a member of the British Dental Industry Association Training Committee; a member of the Sustain working group, which amongst other things campaigns against inappropriate marketing of unhealthy foods to children; and a past president of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education.
