Dentist struck off for dishonest conduct

More than 200 patients underwent blood tests after being treated by the dentist, Harry Robertson, at the Kelburne Dental Surgery in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The GDC has stated that Harry Robertson’s ‘fitness to practise was impaired by reason of his adverse physical and/or mental health and/or misconduct.’

Dentistry reported that the Department of Health has now launched a system of health clearance for healthcare workers living with HIV whose disease is adequately controlled; meaning dentists and dental professionals can still work with the virus.

However, the GDC decided to remove Harry Robertson from its register due to ‘dishonest conduct’.

A spokesman for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said: ‘All new dentists are required to receive clearance from occupational health prior to providing NHS dental services in this region.’

As yet nobody who has undertaken the blood tests has been found positive for the virus, however, there are still a number of patients that have not been tracked down and informed of the situation.

Harry Robertson was initially suspended in May 2013 before being completely removed from the register last week.
