The closing date for the Young Dentist Endodontic Award has been extended

Launched in 2012, the award is now in its third year and open for young dentists who can demonstrate their skill in carrying out an endodontic procedure: www.roottreatmentuk.com/html/young-dentist.

Sponsors of the award are QED, Dentsply and DP Medical, who between them have committed £3,000 worth of prizes.

The closing date for entries has been extended to 1 October 2014.

The judges are Julian Webber, founder of the Harley Street Centre for Endodontics (HSCE), his colleague Trevor Lamb and Professor Andrew Eder, professor of restorative dentistry and dental education at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute and associate vice provost.

Julian said: ‘We have had some great entries in the past two years and I have been very impressed by the abilities and commitment of the young dentists who made it to the award event.

‘If you think you might have a case presentation you would like to share, don’t hesitate, just enter.’

The competition is to find the best case presentation of an endodontic treatment.

The judges are not necessarily looking for the best outcome, but the best attempt at treatment, supported by references as well as the entrant’s insight into their diagnosis and technique.

Rahul Bose was the winner in the first year and his entry is on the HSCE website as an example of an excellent case presentation.

Jamie Nelson (pictured), winner in 2013, is on the website of the Saving Teeth Awareness Campaign www.savingteeth.co.uk/against-all-odds.htm.
