Dentistry is low risk for patients

Dentistry has been classified as low risk according to the CQC

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) State of Care report has found dentistry delivers low risk, good quality care.

The CQC inspected 714 practices in 2014/15 concluding that dental services offer a lower risk to patients’ safety when compared with other sectors.

The low risk of dentistry has prompted the CQC to move to a model of inspecting just 10% of all practices each year.

‘In recent years we’ve seen a clear and consistent picture emerge from inspections by the CQC,’ Mick Armstrong, chair of the BDA, said.

‘The care provided by dental services combines low risk and good quality – which is something our profession has always known.

‘It’s also a reminder why the new approach to dental inspections was the right choice.’
