At your fingertips

NomadKavo has launched an updated version of its popular Nomad handheld X-ray.

Dental professionals around the world have rapidly chosen the Nomad as their preferred X-ray device, both in and out of the dental surgery, with over 15,000 Nomads now in use. The Nomad is a handheld X-ray device offering convenience, versatility and enhanced patient care without compromising on safety. The latest addition to the range, Nomad Pro 2 is now available, providing a new host of benefits.

Convenience and savings

Unlike conventional wall-mount and portable X-ray systems, the Nomad is lightweight, rechargeable (battery-powered), and portable. There are no infrastructure requirements or installation costs such as special cabinetry or reinforced walls and one Nomad handheld unit can easily serve up to our surgeries, which saves investment in capital equipment.

The Nomad Pro 2 comes with a newly designed battery handset, with infrared connectors, together with a new charging cradle that improves the system’s durability and boosts battery performance. Hundreds of images can be obtained from one battery charge. The battery is incorporated into the handle, which is easily removed for charging. A battery icon on the LCD user interface displays current battery levels and indicates when it needs to be charged. This means preparations can be made for battery charging well in advance.

Safety and patient care

The external backscatter shield and internal radiation shielding are designed to protect the operator from radiation exposure.

The handheld design allows the operator to stay with the patient, thereby reducing time required for X-ray procedures. There is no need to leave the surgery and X-rays can be taken at any time during the treatment consultation or procedure which assists the surgery workflow. This makes the Nomad Pro 2 perfect for use with children, geriatric and special-needs patients and ideal for clinical, hospital, home health, nursing home, and out-of-surgery use.

Durability and versatility

Durability is further enhanced by a re-engineered user interface that is more scratch and moisture resistant, meaning the Nomad Pro 2 will stand up to repetitive antiseptic and cross-contamination control procedures.

Although it works just as well with phosphor plates and traditional film, the Nomad Pro 2 is specifically designed for digital sensors to produce high-quality diagnostic images in all scenarios. The dental team will appreciate how quickly and easily control settings can be changed and stored for different types of images. The 0.4 mm focal spot produces sharp, high resolution images and the high-frequency, 60kV DC X-ray generator produces clear images while reducing patient dose.

In practice

Dr Vernon Elliott BDS of Bellissima Clinic in Tanworth-in-Arden, was introduced to the Nomad by Clark Dental. He comments: ‘At Bellissima, we pride ourselves upon delivering a highly professional, individual and distinctive service to all our clients, based on the most up to date treatments available. We wanted to be fully computerised and paperless, which makes managing the business much easier, allowing us more time with our patients. We opted for the Nomad Pro handheld X-ray device and it has proved an excellent system for producing fantastically clear radiographs and can be tucked away when not in use.’
