Expodental brings together Europe’s finest

trade show11Madrid played host to 325 dental companies on 10, 11 and 12 March at Expodental, one of the largest international dental showcases in Europe.

Organised by IFEMA and promoted by the Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies (FENIN), the 14th Expodental exhibition welcomed dental product manufacturers from 34 countries.

As well as a packed trade floor, the exhibition organisers provided delegates with a programme of presentations for cutting-edge products and treatments, in two Speakers Corners.

More than 30 speaker sessions were held, presenting innovative technologies and treatment that have been developed over the last two years.

Presentations related to CAD/CAM, dental aesthetics, marketing, dental health and surgery design, among others.

Dental students welcomed

This year, Expodental presented the brand new Training Sector, intended as a reference framework and information centre for current academic offerings.

A total of 20 universities, specialised centres, scientific societies and other entities offered their best proposals and training programmes in this space, for dentists, dental hygienists and dental technicians – both professionals and students.

Running parallel was the Training Forum, in which presentations were made by organisations such as the Spanish and Portuguese Gathering of Young Dentists, the General Committee of Dentists and the Federation of Dentistry Students.

Thursday 10 March was Student Day at Expodental, which offered dental students in their fourth and fifth years of study access to the trade fair, providing them the opportunity to discover the latest advances in the industry, and to attend special student-centric presentations in the Training Forum.

Presentations specifically for dental students included ‘Do you want to be a hygienist?’, ‘Employment opportunities for dentists’ and ‘Programme for young professionals from Straumann’.

conference11International reach

This year, Portugal was chosen as an Invited Country at Expodental, in an initiative to enable professionals from this neighbouring country to attend the Spanish trade fair.

Furthermore, in collaboration with the British Dental Industry Association (BDIA) and the Embassy of the United Kingdom, IFEMA and FENIN organised a ‘Reverse Mission’, whereby seven dental product companies were invited to attend Expodental from the UK to showcase their products.

The visit, on 10 March, began with a welcome conference, chaired by Simon Manley, UK Ambassador in Spain, who analysed the main characteristics of the Spanish and UK dental markets with participation from Edmund Proffitt, director of policies and public matters at the BDIA; and Eva Beloso, head of the dental sector at FENIN.
