Gaining keratinised tissue

This instructional video from Professor Istvan Urban, demonstrates a clinical procedure using a strip gingival autograft and Geistlich Mucograft to achieve gain of keratinised tissue.

The autologous transplant is placed apically, parallel to the collagen matrix, ensuring that the collagen matrix is replaced by new keratinised tissue instead of by non-keratinising mucosal cells.

This technique reduces dependence on large free gingival grafts or connective tissue grafts, the removal of which are painful due to the creation of large wound surfaces in the palate.
