Dentistry Fees Survey results – dentures

Dental FeesIn the final instalment of the Dentistry Fees Survey, we find out the national and regional average fees charged for complete and partial dentures in private practice.

Last year, in association with Practice Plan, Dentistry.co.uk surveyed the nation’s dental care professionals to gain insights into similarities and differences in dental procedure fees across the country.

Previously the regional and national average fees charged by private practitioners for class I and II composite restorations were revealed.

Our survey results put the national average fee charged per restoration at £83 for a class I filling, and £109 for a class II filling. On a regional basis according to our survey responders, the lowest fees charged for both class I and class II fillings were found in Northern Ireland, where practices charge an average of £55 and £78, respectively.

Meanwhile, Scotland was found to be the region charging the highest fees in the UK for both class I and II fillings. The nation charges £101 on average for a class I restoration, while the average fee for a class II composite filling came in at £122.

On a UK-wide basis (excluding Northern Ireland), the average fee charged in private practice for a complete denture is £759, whilst the average fee for a partial denture came in at £565, according to our survey responders.

These average fees represent a 225% and 142% uplift on the cost of both complete and partial dentures at an NHS practice, where patients are charged the price of a band three treatment, which currently stands at £233.70.

On a regional basis, the east Midlands offered the lowest fee on average for complete dentures, at £623 – 18% lower than the national average private fee, but still 166% higher than an NHS band three treatment. Wales was the region offering the lowest fee for partial dentures amongst our survey responders, at an average of £401 per denture. This represents 29% lower than the national average of £565, but 71% higher than a NHS band three treatment.

The highest fees for both complete and partial dentures were again found in Scotland, where a complete denture will cost patients £944 on average – 24% higher than the national average private fee and 304% higher than an NHS equivalent. In Scotland, a partial denture costs an average of £828, representing a 47% increase on the national average and 254% more expensive than the NHS equivalent.
