If you’re thinking of beginning a journey in implant dentistry, Dentale explains why its courses could be suited perfectly for you.

As one of the UK’s largest dental training providers, operating out of three state-of-the-art facilities, Dentale has trained over 400 dental professionals to date and continues to put smiles back on the faces of many local patients. Running a programme of introductory and advanced courses for fully-qualified dentists, Dentale enables its delegates to acquire not only the theoretical knowledge, but the hands-on surgical experience needed to master implant dentistry.

Dentale’s week-long introduction to implant dentistry course is suitable for all GDC registered dentists with little to no previous experience of implants.

The course will take you through the entire implant procedure; from start to finish you will learn all there is to know about implant placement. Beginning with the background and planning stages of implant surgery, including dental anatomy, implant design, surgical theory and the practical use of the implant kit, the course will also cover suturing and post-operative care using pig heads, placement techniques and treatment planning skills including prosthetic components. In addition, you will also get to experience live surgeries, learn about bone augmentation and finally, place an implant yourself on a patient.

Following this, Dentale offers a 10-day advanced surgical course, which expands on the knowledge and skills gained from the week-long course. Working as a sequence, Dentale offers these courses in conjunction with one another to provide effective training that covers all aspects of implant dentistry. The 10-day advanced surgical course builds on the week-long, allowing delegates to master treatment from diagnosis all the way through placement to restoration on patients that are provided.

Successful implant dentists

Many of our past delegates have gone on to become highly successful implant dentists, either restricting their practice to implant provision or incorporating implant treatment into their general practice. Former Dentale delegate, Dr Phil Gardiner, is a keen implant dentist who believes that implant dentistry should be considered a normal part of general dentistry. Having graduated from the King’s College Dental Institute he spent eight years in NHS and private practice where he developed an affinity for restorative dentistry. After taking an interest in implants, Phil looked to Dentale for all his implant training needs. Phil underwent the Dentale week-long introduction to implants and 10-day advanced implant courses in succession, consequently becoming a fully trained implant dentist.

‘Looking for a comprehensive course that married up both surgical exposure and academic content in implants has always proved a challenge, until I came across the Dentale introductory week-long and 10-day advanced course. Both courses were well organised and provided me with great academic content but also excellent clinical and practical exposure. The support staff and nurses were excellent, had brilliant knowledge and were always on hand and attentive when I was consulting and treating patients. I must have placed over 20 implants on the course, had one-to-two supervision and gained a great deal of experience placing and restoring full arch cases, single implants and splinted cases. Prior to my attendance I had never placed an implant and I left feeling confident but aware of my limits and have now moved onto the implant diploma at the Royal College and place implants full time in various practices in the south east. I am still in contact with Implantium and they have been invaluable at helping me treatment plan and assess cases when required’ – Phil Gardiner BSc(hons), BDS
