CBCT training during the COVID-19 lockdown

Cavendish Imaging introduces its CBCT training courses and explains why it’s currently offering several modules for free.

On the 12 March 2020 our lives changed in so many ways. In these extraordinary times, perhaps the only consolation is that no matter how isolated we are, we are not alone.

At Cavendish Imaging we have worked hard since the very beginning of CBCT in the UK. We are promoting use of the technology and helping our community delve deeper into the subject. This is so that they can make the most of each and every CBCT examination. In the current climate, some consider that computed tomography, as a form of detailed extraoral radiography, has an increased role in the triage and management of emergencies.

As the use of CBCT evolves, guidelines give structure to the way that we use CBCT and to define a curriculum for training. We already offer one-on-one training, monthly lectures and biannual CBCT masterclasses for the referrer.

We base our masterclass on the British and European Societies of dentomaxillofacial radiology curriculum. This course is compulsory for those referring for CBCT examinations. Part one of the referrer course takes place in a single day of didactic teaching. Or in ‘bite-sized’ modules over seven months. The part two course is on interpretation, also compulsory if you are not using a radiologist to report the scan.

Our faculty includes eminent consultant radiologists – Dr Jackie Brown, Dr Steve Colley, Dr Simon Harvey  and our own Dr Sauret-Jackson, medical physicist, as well as other experts in the field.

To help our referrers to use these days of lockdown constructively we have created a unique online course for referrer level one. We have made several of the modules free to view. So you can get started right away – the level one certificate will be provided upon competition of the entire course.

Free lecture topics include interpretation of normal anatomyinterpretation of diseased anatomy, the latest rules and regulations for CBCT. With additional topics also to come over the next few weeks.

The level two course is a radiologist-led software driven training. We will guide you through the basis of interpretation and report writing and give you an insight into a range of different viewing platforms.
