Henry Schein Dental helps those in need in the Phillippines

Henry Schein Dental UK has donated products to the ICD to support the Dentistry for Every Village organisation in the Philippines.

During the organisation’s one-week mission to the Philippines, seven dentists, two physicians, four dental assistants and 14 nurses volunteered and took care of more than 400 patients, performing nearly 250 extractions, 50 composite/amalgam fillings and 85 fissure sealants and more than 100 prophylaxis treatments and 60 topical fluoride applications.

‘Henry Schein is proud of our long-term partnership with the International College of Dentists and also the ICD’s Global Visionary Fund to advance oral health around the world,’ said Simon Gambold, Henry Schein’s vice president European dental northern region and marketing European dental group.

‘This is an important part of our global commitment to society.’

‘Heart-warming’

During the trip to the Philippines two sessions of patient education, including toothbrush instructions, were given.

In addition, a dental clinic donated to The St Scholastica’s Mission Hospital was opened to enhance access to dental care to the people in the extended neighbourhood.

‘It is heart-warming to see indigent people get the care they need,’ said Ed de la Vega, DDS, president of the Dentistry for Every Village Foundation.

‘Needless to say, without the help of the ICD Global Visionary Found and Henry Schein, the mission would not have turned out to be so successful.’
