The School of Dentistry at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) provides a growing portfolio of flexible, part-time, postgraduate degrees and a number of successful courses designed for members of the primary care dental team. The focus is on promoting a culture of continuing professional development, allowing the future and present general dental practitioners the opportunity to further their skills and education in their chosen area of interest, whilst maintaining their clinical practice. As one of only a few universities nationally to boast its own on-campus dental clinic, we are fully equipped to give students direct access to practical experience. It is the time spent in the dental clinic, learning and practising clinical skills in the first year, and then treating patients under supervision in the later years that sets our provision apart.
Dentistry is moving towards the establishment of local clinical networks where the dentist possessing additional skills can look forward to a career with greater professional rewards. With the ever-increasing emphasis on the delivery of high quality care in the primary care setting, completing one of our postgraduate MSc degrees will allow professionals to play a strong role in the dental care of the future. Specialisms within the school’s postgraduate dental education include:
- MSc clinical periodontology
- MSc dental implants
- MSc endodontology
- MSc non-surgical cosmetic interventions
- MSc oral surgery
- MSc prosthodontics.
Other professional programmes in our school portfolio include:
- Clinical dental technology
- Orthodontic therapy programme (GDC approved)
- Commissioning and dental advising
- Mentoring in dental practice
- Facilitating learning in healthcare practice.
