Dentist pioneers 3D scan for ‘perfect fit’ braces

An orthodontic clinic is promising a perfect fit every time thanks to a new 3D scanning process that has been introduced to the UK.
The London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic claims it can offer a bespoke fit every time and specialises in lingual braces.
The i-Cat Cone Beam 3D Imaging System offers an ‘actual size' 3D model of the skull and teeth with panoramic views, allowing the dental surgeon to see critical anatomy not previously available on traditional scans.
This allows more in-depth diagnosis of the patient's requirements before treatment begins by providing a multiple projection perspective to accurately assess tooth relationships relative to adjacent teeth and proximity to vital structures such as the sinus walls and nerve canal.
Images are produced in around 20 seconds, using significantly lower levels of radiation and assuring a safer experience for the patient.
The scans are also used to get precise measurements for fitting the braces to within 1mm of the tooth surface.
In addition, it allows for braces to be made up in a one piece template using a tray similar to a tooth whitening tray, rather than the time-consuming placement of individual brackets.
