Swine flu is believed to have caused the temporary closure of Harvard University's dental school in the US.

Health authorities are investigating a ‘recent probable swine flu case' involving a dental student and suspect as many as nine students may be infected with it.

The Boston Public Health Commission requested the cancellation of third- and fourth-year and post-doctoral classes at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston's Longwood medical area and the closing of its Harvard Dental Center clinic, officials said.

Harvard opted to close the entire school until test results come back and the extent of the problem is determined.

The unidentified student, who ‘associated' with someone recently back from Mexico, is ‘isolated' at home.

Officials are investigating how many people the student came in contact with.
