A group of dental students are on a mission to Cambodia this summer and are looking for donations of dental equipment to take with them.

The five – from the University of Manchester – leave for their three-week trip on 27 July and aim to treat more than 1,500 children.

Dr Monika Suorn, of the Tooth Angel Project, has put together the team for the mission to Cambodia where dental treatment is a luxury and the average five year old has 8-10 decayed teeth.

The team will travel to many of the county's provinces, visiting a number of orphanages.

Team member Jennifer Archer said: ‘We hope to volunteer our services to these children and hopefully make a difference to as many of them as we can. Whether that be extracting a tooth to relieve pain, or giving simple oral heath advice and providing a child with a toothbrush.'

To make this mission a success, the students are appealing to dental practices to make donations of: local anaesthetic, GIC, dentine conditioner, etch and bond, gloves and masks, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
