A Brazilian orthodontist working in Reading was on board the Air France flight thought to have crashed in the Atlantic.

French officials confirmed Dr Jose Souza, an associate dentist at The Orthodontic Centre since 2005, was on the flight's passenger list.

He is believed to have been in Brazil visiting his family.

Jose qualified as a dental surgeon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1996.

He worked in oral surgery until 1998, when he started his post graduate diploma in paediatric orthodontics at the university of Paris and the Eastman Institute of Paris.

Since 2001, he had been working full time providing orthodontic treatment for adults and children in Brazil, France and now in the UK.

He has been working here at The Orthodontic Centre since January 2005.

A statement from practice said: ‘The staff at The Orthodontic Centre are devastated by the news. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of our highly respected colleague. He will be greatly missed.'
