September is Colgate Oral Health Month

Colgate Oral Health Month is a UK-wide initiative run by Colgate in partnership with the British Dental Association (BDA).
The aim is to educate the public about the importance of oral health and to promote communication between dental professionals and patients. The 2009 campaign is focusing on the theme of delivering prevention in practice.
Colgate Oral Health Month provides the dental team with an opportunity to get involved. A roadshow will travel around visiting major retailers at selected venues throughout September.
Dental professionals will be at mobile toothbrushing units giving advice and demonstrating toothbrushing techniques.
More than 85% of UK dental practices have registered to take part in this year's campaign. They will each receive a pack containing educational materials, patient samples, motivational stickers and supplies to create their own display to drive awareness of oral health within their practices.
Practices are invited to share their displays by submitting photographs for a chance to win an exclusive team-building day. The 2009 Colgate Oral Health Month CPD programme focuses on delivering prevention in practice, utilising Delivering Better Oral Health – a toolkit for prevention, published by the Department of Health. This toolkit provides the dental team with simple, evidence-based advice to promote oral health to their patients. In order to engage patients, the CPD programme will show some practical examples of how to deliver prevention in clinical practice.
Focusing on one key preventive theme and working together as a team, practices are asked to develop accessible, easy to understand oral health messages they can communicate to their patients to help them implement a good oral hygiene routine.
Practices are invited to submit their messages to be reviewed by a panel of judges. The winning entry will be developed into a practice waiting room poster, to be included in the Colgate Oral Health Month 2010 practice pack.
