An independent clinical and financial review of popular dental products and techniques is to be headed by leading US dentist Dr Gordon Christensen next month. The ‘Bottom line’ will cut through the ‘enormous variety of techniques, materials and devices available’ claims Gordon, and will explain exactly what products perform clinically and offer the best value for money. Dentists can expect practical information geared towards providing lower practice overheads, covering topics such as ‘veneers; the good and the bad’, ‘when and how to cap pulps’ as well as ‘conservative periodontal procedures’. Independent Seminars, organisers of the one-day event, said: ‘This is the only independent review of products and methods in dentistry today. Delegates will learn conclusively whether they’ve been paying for products or their packaging and will avoid costly mistakes in future.’ Gordon is the founder of Practical Clinical Courses (PCC), an international organisation that offers continuing education for dental professionals. More than 50,000 dentists attend his courses each year, and he has presented more than 45,000 hours of continuing education. He told Dentistry magazine: ‘I saw a need for practical education that can be implemented the day after the course, not just a list of references, numbers, statistics and display of ego.’ The data behind Bottom line is taken from the organisation Clinical Research Associates (CRA). Founded by Gordon, the non-profit organisation carries out independent product evaluations and publishes its findings in the CRA Newsletter. The Association is recognised as a major voice within the industry. Attendees will be eligible for seven hours of verifiable CPD. Bottom line will be held on Sunday, 20 March 2006.
