A cosmetic dental surgery is seeking volunteers to undergo the hi-tech treatments featured in TV shows like 10 Years Younger.

Lubiju in Leith is regarded as one of Scotland's leading dental implant practices and provides training for dentists from around the country.

Now it is seeking volunteers to take part in a post-graduate training programme throughout 2010 – which could see those selected getting advanced dental treatment for a fraction of the usual cost.

Dentist Dr Biju Krishnan, who co-founded Lubiju, said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for patients to get treatment they might not otherwise be able to afford.

‘The results of implant treatment are genuinely life-changing for many people. It is often referred to as the 10 Years Younger treatment. However, it's not just about looking younger, it is about restoring confidence and even making it easier to eat or speak.'

Dr Krishnan added: ‘Mini implants require only minor surgery, yet it is absolutely life-changing for those people who live with constant irritation of loose dentures.

‘We hear stories every single day of how patients lack confidence because their dentures make it difficult to do the most basic things, like eat or speak comfortably. It can make day-to-day life unbearable.'

Since opening earlier this year, Lubiju has become one of Scotland's leading cosmetic dentists.

Its implant team is particularly renowned because it is headed by one of Europe's most pre-eminent experts in the field, Dr John Cuccio.

He has more than 35 years of implant expertise and became a leading proponent through his Harley Street surgery. Since moving to Edinburgh several years ago, he has become one of a small handful the most sought after experts in the lecturing and training circuit.

Dr Krishan added: ‘Of course there are other practices which can offer implants. However, we tend to handle the most advanced and complex cases.

‘Those include patients who require multiple implants, accident victims, cases where there is not a lot of bone and patients may require bone grafts. There are also cases where the aesthetics are very challenging.

‘Many dentists will be happy to deal with implants at the back of the mouth, but will refer cases to us if they are dealing with implants at the front, which are far more challenging from an aesthetic point of view.'

Dr Krishnan added: ‘Most people who would benefit from implants already know about the treatment and tend to have done their research. Usually the only thing preventing them from getting the treatment is the cost.

‘This is a chance to get that treatment with up to 50% off the cost, as long as they are prepared to have post-graduate dentists perform the treatment under supervision as part of their training.'

It is the first time Lubiju has publicly appealed for volunteers and the team expect a sizeable response. Would-be patients will have to be screened and some will not be suitable for treatment.

Lubiju will be running post-graduate training courses throughout 2010, so those who are not successful for the first course will have the option to wait for later training programmes.

Dr Krishnan and fellow Dundee University graduate Dr Lubino do Rego opened Lubiju in Leith earlier this year after a £750,000 investment.

It provides private treatments and augments their existing Drake Dental Practice and Scottish Implant Centre, which are already renowned for their NHS treatments.

I would like to participate in this treatment by Dr Biju Krishnan, I was referred by my NHS dentist in Portobello to the dentist on Rose street in Edinburgh for one implant due to one of my front teeth being removed, in total I require 3 teeth after the initial consultation I was told the cost (£3,500 for one tooth) I can't afford it to even have one of the teeth replaced.
I don’t understand why this treatment is not carried out by NHS dentist's with a regulated pricing band.
I would appreciate help to find the treatment I require at an affordable price.

I'm not sure what it is you require. Is it implants or cosmetic whitening? Naturawhite ( http://naturawhite.com ) provide the best teeth whitening as far as I know. As for implants I think these can go under NHS.

I think since he mentions that he was referred for an implant I assume it is an implant he requires. Infact I think he mentions he requires three. Now, I think 3500 for per tooth for tooth whitening would be rather stretching it. If you think implant 'can go under NHS' I don't what planet you arel living on? When the government is strapped for cash and PCT's are trying to decide whether to fund cancer drugs or cardio etc, somehow I don't think they have spare funding for dental implants.

I do not neglect my teeth, in fact I spend a fortune on special toothpastes, electric toothbrushes, waterpiks etc so it's not like I go to bed and not brush my teeth but I am very worried about receding gums (hereditary) so I need help asap, I am 63. I would love to volunteer for dental implants but unfortunately it seems the places offering such life changing offers are way too far away but if any should come to E Sussex I shall be first in the queue.

Please can you tell me if you still require people for this if so contact me as after having my remaining teeth removed 7 months ago an still having problems with the dentures I am wanting o have implants but due to losing my job 12 months ago I cannot get the finance for the procedure and now I am at my wits end now

shop around -we start at 1500 for an implant-we do 0% finance etc 3.5 seems a lot for a single implant so I suspect you have your quote mixed up.The nhs is there to do basics so forget it -you don't get a champagne lifestyle for beer money and ther's no such thing as a free lunch, Nice things cost money-the nhs has higher priorities than an alternative to a bridge or denture. Ajay if you've lost your job you have my sympathies but maybe now isn't the time to think about spending large sums on implants despite how desperate you are.I've never heard of Mr Krishnam but I'm sure he won't be doing something for nothing

Thanks Gordie for your reply, I understand where you are coming from with your comment about the timing, it's not the greatest I know .I am certainly under no elusions that I am going to get anything for free by anyone, and I am currently looking to get myself another as quickly as possible, I spend hours on end searching different job websites each and everyday. Been unemployed sucks!! big time. If I had known how many problems dentures were going to cause me god I wouldn't have let the original dentist talk me into it, in the first place. God heinsight is a grea thing after the fact eh!!!............Here's hoping all these endless hours might just pay off. Again thanks for your reply.

ajay if you are really stuck get an acrylic rochette bridge knocked up-we use them as temps when we do an implant-they're better than a denture and fairly ceap-I usually charge about £150 -if you're local give me a ring-01753540111-near slough

Gordie thanks for that However I alive in west yorkshire a fair distance to say the least however i have never heard of a acrylic rochette bridge, can you tell me exactly what one of them is, and from what research I have done they were popular in the 70's and and as I have a full complete set of dentures for both upper and lower how are they placed, do they still have a plate like normal conventional dentures?
