In 2008, the BDTA Council took the decision to review and strengthen the BDTA Code of Practice to update the existing code to conform to current legislation, to improve the transparency and fairness of the code, to raise standards within the membership and to maintain a robust system of self regulation.

The changes to the Articles of Association and Code of Practice were agreed at the association's AGM in May 2009 and the revised Code is now available to download here

A new audit procedure has been put in place requiring companies applying for membership of the Association to demonstrate compliance with all relevant legislation.

Exisitng members will also be required to participate in a desk-top audit every five years to ensure standards are maintained.

All members will commit to the key BDTA principles and environmentally sound procedures.  Non-UK applicants will be required to have a UK facility trading in its own right.

The Code of Practice continues to highlight the importance of member company staff being adequately trained and the need for advertising and promotions to comply with relevant national and international legal requirements.

The complaints and appeals procedure was also reviewed and updated to include clearer penalties for breach of the Code.

Compliance with the BDTA's Code of Practice demonstrates members' commitment to providing every customer with the convenience, choice and confidence that they have come to expect from their BDTA supplier.
