17th May 2010The Duchess of Gloucester officially opened the Peninsula Dental School's Dental Education Facility last week.
She met with representatives from the Peninsula Dental School and the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, including its new European Centre for the Environment and Human Health.
She then visited the Dental Education Facility, based at the Knowledge Spa, Treliske, Truro. that since opening in January this year, has treated more than 350 NHS patients.
She spoke to students and patients before trying her hand at dental techniques by using one of the School's 'phantom heads' that allows Peninsula Dental School students to hone their clinical skills before treating patients.
At the unveiling of the official opening plaque, Professor Liz Kay, Dean of the Peninsula Dental School and Interim Dean of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, said: 'We are delighted that Her Royal Highness has officially opened our Dental Education Facility in Truro. It is a beautiful and superbly equipped facility and we are providing quality NHS dental treatment carried out by excellent young dentists.'
The Duchess said: ‘I am delighted to be with you to celebrate the official opening of the Peninsula Dental School. The visit has been interesting and fun too, and it has been good to meet with dental students. I wish all the best to students and staff who work in this splendid building, and of course to its patients.‘
