Dental practice manager funds Kenyan dental project

A dental nurse and practice manager has gone all out to raised funds for dental charity, Dentaid.
Sally Reading is practice manager at Ystwyth Dental Practice in Aberystwyth who began fundraising for Dentaid more than seven years ago with a 10,000ft skydive.
In the fund-raising years since she began, Sally has:
• Taken part in a two-mile swim in her pyjamas
• Abseiled 175ft off Newport Transporter Bridge
• Staged a nine-hour marathon of karate training with 21 friends at Aberystwyth Karate Club in December 2009.
The last event raised more than £1,300 which was exactly what was needed to send a Dentaid portable chair, a non-electric steriliser, an Instrument Kit and ART and OHE modules to Pan African Christian Exchange (P.A.C.E.) Ministries in Nyahururu, Kenya!
P.A.C.E. provides low-cost dental treatment for the aged, HIV/AIDS orphans and children with mental and physical disabilities. The dental unit was started in March 2009 providing mainly check-ups, scalings and extractions.
They also have mobile clinics visiting churches and schools in the area and the Dentaid portable chair and kits will allow them to expand the current services and facilitate an oral health education programme.
Sally is now planning on travelling out with the equipment to the Kenyan project to meet the dentist in charge, Ben Mburu, and to work alongside him and launch the use of the mobile dental chair.
Her dentist, Dr Peter Crowther, will accompany her.
