Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas is vowing to beat cancer – but his treatment means he may never act again.

The 65-year-old star is beginning an aggressive course of radiation and chemotherapy to kill a tumour in his throat.

Doctors warn that he may end up with badly affected vocal cords or lose the ability to speak.

His latest film – Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps – is due for release next month.

The American won an Academy Award for his role as Gordon Gekko in the film, Wall Street, and is a smoker.

You can join in this year's Mouth Cancer 10k Awareness Walk for the chance to win a special prize, simply by recruiting more than 10 people to your team.

There will also be prizes for the highest fundraisers, supporters, survivors, best fancy dress and many more.

Fancy dress

There will be prizes on the day for the best fancy dress, so get creative!

Mouth cancer screening is offered to participants on the day and everyone who takes part will receive a t-shirt, medal and goodie bag.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Mouth Cancer Foundation, the aim is to get more than 1,000 people walking with friends and family.

The walk is taking place on Saturday 18 September 2010 in London's Kensington Gardens. Registration is at 1pm for a 2pm start. To take part, register online at www.mouthcancerwalk.org.

If you would prefer to help out on the day, rather than walk, the Mouth Cancer Foundation is looking to recruit 40 volunteers to help out behind the scenes.
