The University of Portsmouth Dental Academy will be officially opened by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health, Earl Howe, next Wednesday (2 February).

The event, which will be attended by chief dental officer, Barry Cockcroft, marks the official launch of the new £9 million purpose-designed facility to train dental care professionals and final-year undergraduate dentists.

The dental academy is an innovative education partnership between the University of Portsmouth and King's College London Dental Institute (KCLDI).

Every year, 80 final year dental students from KCLDI will join dental hygiene, therapy and dental nursing students from Portsmouth to train and work together in teams.

In attendance will be Sara Holmes, director of the University of Portsmouth Dental Academy,      Nairn Wilson, director of King's College London Dental Institute and actress Sheila Hancock, who is also university chancellor.
