Child taskforce to spread worldwide
4th Jul 2006Colgate-Palmolive recently celebrated its 200th anniversary with a breakfast at the New York Stock Exchange and announced its special support for the Global Child Dental Health Taskforce, spearheaded by King’s College London Dental Institute. Professor Raman Bedi, director of the taskforce, was invited to attend as Colgate’s guest. Professor Bedi, right, and Ian Cook, Colgate’s chief executive, announced to the NYSE that the King’s taskforce was their gift to children worldwide. They then rang the famous bell to start the day’s trading. The Global Dental Health Taskforce is supported by the World Health Organisation and receives backing from national governments. Professor Bedi's team at King’s is at the forefront, assisting in the recruitment of national taskforces on how they can improve children’s oral health. The initiative is currently working in 10 countries, including the UK, India, China, Mexico and South Africa, and within two years will expand this to 30 countries. It aims to influence and harmonise the messages within national oral health programmes, reaching out to around 500 million children and their parents. Professor Bedi said: ‘King’s is a world leader in dental education and it's a privilege to be spearheading such an important initiative. We’re working with a number of different countries, all with different priorities, to help shape children's oral health services on an international scale.’ Call 020 7848 3202 for more information.
