Stanley M Bergman, chairman and chief executive officer of Henry Schein, Inc, the largest distributor of health care products and services to office-based dental, medical and animal health practitioners, recently addressed the fifth annual Senior Dental Leaders Programme held at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Mass.

The Senior Dental Leaders Programme is designed to bring together oral health leaders from around the world to develop a global network engaged in advocacy and programs aimed at improving children's oral health at the local, state, and federal levels.

The intensive six-day leadership programme included senior dental policy makers, leaders of non-governmental organisations, and senior academic leaders.

The programme included facilitated networking, effective coalition building, leadership skills building, and a review of oral health policy.

First conceptualised by Professor Raman Bedi, DDS in 2007 at King's College, the Senior Dental Leaders Programme 2011 was organised by the Global Child Dental Fund, King's College London's Global Child Dental Health Taskforce, and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

This is the fifth year that Henry Schein Cares, the Company's global corporate social responsibility programme, together with Colgate-Palmolive, have supported the Senior Dental Leaders Programme.

Mr Bergman's address focused on the importance of forging public-private partnerships to effectively addressing complex global health issues.

He discussed the success of the Bridges to Peace Program—a collaboration between Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dentistry and Al Quds University School of Dentistry that facilitates opportunities for health professionals to work together and use the power of health care to reach beyond political or religious divides – and the launch of the International Alliance for Peace Through Oral Health.

Henry Schein sponsored the participation of more than 10 delegates from developing countries in the Senior Dental Leaders Programme.

The company also sponsored a gala dinner to facilitate networking among the delegates and other oral health leaders in the Northeastern United States.
