A retired dentist is looking for fellow clinicians to set up a group in the UK.

Philip Weisberger, a regular contributor to Dentistry magazine and retired north London dentist, is keen to encourage more interest in www.retiringdentists.com – a website set up in the States for dentists who have left behind a career in dentistry but still have an interest in the profession.

Philip said: 'From my experience of speaking to dentists, retired or thinking about it, there seems to be a lot of apathy out there. Some dentists, once their professional career has finished, seem to lose interest in what I am sure in many cases, was a most interesting and rewarding profession.

'Many I know were glad to finish. Maybe this reflected the stress of their individual practices? But as far as I am aware, nothing like it exists over here in the UK.'

He added: 'Maybe it need someone to kick-start the initiative? Many may have had a similar idea, but just didn't get out there and try it! Meetings could be arranged if the number of members justified it but forums, discussions etc, would be online to start.'

The Assoication of Retiring Dentists (ARD) was started in 2008 in New Jersey, USA.

Anyone keen to get involved, can contact Philip at philip.weisberger@btinternet.com.
